Course Overview

This course will provide the learners with the knowledge and understanding of the Form of Authority process, specifically in relation to the safe control of operations on the UK gas network. It will provide the necessary training and assessment to achieve SCO registration on the EUSR register.

  • Ensure learners understand the purpose of a Form of Authority and when this type of control should be used
  • Develop understanding of the key information requirements needed to complete an FoA
  • Build knowledge of the practical and basic requirements of a Form of Authority
  • Ensure learners understand the importance of risk assessment to an FoA
  • Reinforce the importance of monitoring site conditions throughout an FoA’s use
  • Develop understanding of the roles and responsibilities involved in the preparation, issue, and management of an FoA
  • Provide learners with the practical skills needed to audit a Form of Authority
  • Prepare learners for EUSR registration under the SCO FoA scheme

This course is aimed at individuals working under the SCO (Safe Control of Operations) scheme on gas operational sites who need to be registered to issue, prepare, or receive Form of Authority permitry, including named Competent Persons and Authorising Engineers.

It’s particularly suited to those involved in operational works and minor works on gas networks and certain meter installations who are responsible for authorising higher-risk activities. Learners must already hold SCO 1&2 Core and Permit to Work (PtW) before undertaking this module, along with suitable reading and writing abilities. The course can be taken as a standalone module for those who already hold other SCO qualifications, or combined with other SCO modules depending on individual job role requirements.
