Course Overview

This course will provide engineers with the knowledge and understanding of how to safely install and maintain mains pipework on the UK gas network. It will provide the necessary training and assessments to achieve a City & Guilds Level 2 Diploma in Network Construction Operations (Gas) Main Layer. These courses are fully funded for independent learners. (Those not taking the course through an employer) Employers using Bootcamps to upskill their workforce will be required to pay a contribution (10% for SME and 30% for larger employers).

Course Objectives:

  • State the safe systems of work required when working on the network and highway
  • Demonstrate the safe working practices and procedures for installing and replacing gas mains
  • State the procedure for working safely in excavations
  • Demonstrate how to join, install and test pipework
  • Demonstrate how to decommission pipework in line with procedures
  • Demonstrate how to build and maintain positive relationships within the workplace

Course content:

All utility operatives who are required to be a potential team leader installing, maintaining or replacing gas main installations on the UK network. All trainees must be working on the UK network on main laying work to gain experience and build a portfolio of evidence. Must have a valid SHEA (Gas) and ideally hold Level 1 Network Construction Operations certificate.

To be eligible you must be:

  • Over 19 or older on 31st August within the current academic year
  • Have the right to work in the UK
