Course Overview

Gain your ACS MET1 qualification in the installation, commissioning, and removal of domestic gas meters. This course covers tightness testing, regulator checks, and emergency procedures, essential for engineers working on domestic gas metering systems.

The certificate is renewable every 5 years. Operatives will need to obtain COCN1/CMA1/CESP1 along with ICPN1 and TPCP1/1A to sit this course.

  • Understand current gas safety legislation and industry standards relevant to domestic metering
  • Develop the practical skills needed to install and commission domestic gas meters
  • Build competence in meter exchange and removal procedures
  • Ensure learners can carry out tightness and soundness testing
  • Develop the ability to check and adjust regulators correctly
  • Build knowledge of pipework installation and inspection requirements
  • Understand emergency control valves and isolation procedures
  • Develop competence in identifying and classifying unsafe situations
  • Ensure learners can safely re-establish gas supplies and relight appliances
  • Prepare learners for both the open-book written and practical elements of ACS assessment

This course is aimed at gas engineers who want to gain or renew certification to install, commission, exchange, test, and remove domestic gas meters. It’s suited to those holding an existing CCN1 and CENWAT ACS qualification, or valid COCN1/CMA1/CESP1 along with ICPN1 and TPCP1/1A qualifications. This course is available as either an initial assessment for those new to MET1, or a re-assessment for those renewing an existing qualification.
