ACS CMDDA1 Carbon Monoxide Testing Training Course

• Determining the scope of a carbon monoxide investigation
• Clarifying the source of the indication of CO, including detector activation and customer reports of fumes
• Identifying the vicinity where fumes were first noticed
• Noting details of fossil fuel burning equipment in use at the time
• Ambient CO and CO2 testing in dwellings
• Combustion performance analysis using electronic portable gas analysers
• Testing across Type A (flueless), Type B (open flue), and Type C (room sealed) appliances
• Combustion performance analysis action levels for gas appliances
• Completing dwelling investigation reports and gas appliance investigation reports
• Relevant guidance: BS 7967 Parts 1 to 4 and HSE Guidance Notes
• Multiple-choice, short written response, and scenario question assessment preparation
• Observed practical assessment preparation

This course is aimed at gas engineers who may be required to respond to a genuine report of a CO alarm activation, or a report of fumes, smells, or suspected spillage or leakage of combustion products in a domestic property. Learners must hold a current CCN1 (or CCLP1 for LPG) and CPA1 qualification, or valid equivalent NVQ or QCF/RQF qualification, along with the appropriate appliance-specific qualifications. This course does not cover commercial premises or appliances, and engineers required to carry out formal CO incident investigations on behalf of a gas supplier will need a further qualification aligned with IGEM/GL/8.
