Course Overview

This course will provide the learners with the knowledge and understanding of how to safely undertake emergency and remedial work on the UK gas networks. It will provide the necessary training and assessment to achieve City & Guilds unit accreditation and ELR registration with EUSR. This course is also valuable for supervisors or managers involved in emergency works.

On successful completion of the course learners will be able to:

• State the priorities for emergency actions when dealing with gas escapes and other emergencies.

• Demonstrate how to deal with a reported gas escape in line with current procedures.

• Demonstrate effective search techniques.

• Demonstrate how to operate gas detection equipment and evaluate readings.

• Demonstrate safe working practices and procedures when dealing with gas escapes and other emergencies.

• Demonstrate the correct repair techniques.

The ELR course provides learners with the knowledge, skills, and competence required to safely undertake emergency and remedial works on the UK gas networks in line with current legislation, industry standards, and company procedures.

The programme focuses on the priorities for emergency response, including managing reported gas escapes, applying effective search techniques, and maintaining control of sites to protect the public, workforce, and assets. Learners develop practical competence in the use of gas detection equipment, accurate interpretation of readings, and the application of safe working practices throughout ELR activities.

The course also covers approved repair techniques and supports learners in building an evidence-based portfolio to achieve City & Guilds unit accreditation and EUSR ELR registration, making it suitable for operatives progressing into team leader roles as well as supervisors or managers involved in emergency works

All operatives that are required to be a potential team leader undertaking escape, locate and repair activities on the UK network. Learners must already hold a valid certificate at NCO Level 2 (Mains or Services) and a valid SHEA passport. Learners must be working on the UK network on ELR work to gain experience and build a portfolio of evidence.
